goText++ Desk! 0.8.5 now Portable, new Xml Services
goText++ Desk! has been updated to version 0.8.5, with a big new feature: portable mode!
You can now bring goText++ Desk! on any USB drive and send free SMS (or cheap SMS) from any personal computer, with your data encrypted with secure AES-192 encryption.
Lots of minor and major annoyances have been solved too, especially for Linux and Mac OS X users.
Find the detailed changelog and download links on the goText++ Desk! homepage.
And thanks to the nice work of egosum and bluesman, now there are more than ten Xml Services for goText++ Desk!, with support for the most popular International and Italian free and commercial SMS websites.
It is really easy to create new Xml Services..why don't you try to make the Xml Service for your favorite SMS website!?
PS: if there are no more major bugs, I'll take more time to work on the next release (one release every week is a bit too much for me and for you, users, too).
goText++ Desk! 0.8.3 (now also on Mac) and goText Touch on App Store
goText++ Desk!, the new sms software for computers has just been updated to version 0.8.3 .
This new release introduces some improvements, crash fixes, and supports some changes in the Xml Service format, that will be used in upcoming services.
The upgrade is recommended and required for all users, or you won't be able to use new services.
The big news anyway is that I finally got around the troubles with the Mac build, and this release is finally available also on Mac OS X!
It's only for Intel based Mac though. If someone needs it for PPC based Macs I'll try to make the next one in universal binary format.
Windows and Linux users shouldn't worry, builds for their OS are always available.
If this is the first time you read about goText++ Desk! you'd better read the original release news.
And if you want to have more infos on this new release, or download the software immediately, go to the goText++ Desk! homepage!
This day sees another (longer awaited) release: goText Touch, the goText port for iPhone and iPod Touch is finally available on the official App Store.
Don't wait anymore, visit the goText Touch homepage for infos and to download it for free!
The application is a little outdated, but fully working, and the author will almost likely be back on track with the development soon.
goText++ Desk! for Windows, Linux and MacOSX
Here's my personal Christmas present for you all, a whole new application: goText++ Desk!
That is... goText for Windows, Linux and MacOSX!
Yes you read it right, as many people requested there's finally an official goText for PC, and it's named goText++ Desk!.
And best of all it's a native application written in C++, and it's available for Windows, Linux and MacOSX.
Everything has started as a little application I coded to test the basics of Qt Framework, but it didn't take much time before I realized it could grow into something big.
I started making design tests, experiment ideas, crystallize them into UML diagrams, standard drafts, and...with quite a good amount of time spent in the last year, writing code and testing, that little experiment has grown into a complete, stable, and working SMS application.
This first goText++ Desk! is marked as beta, as it may contain some bugs, and is still missing some interesting piece I'd like to add.
Anyway it's already fully usable, and used a lot by 3 people in the last year (thanks to Mao and Va for using and testing).
This release is more important than it appears to be at a first sight, because goText++ Desk is the first piece of the goText world to use a new Xml Service format.
Yes, this is the second popular request that becomes real today.
Finally goText starts to move to Xml based services. It is a new format, designed from scratch to be easy for beginners, and as powerful as classic goText services for advanced service writers.
Right now the Xml Service format is supported only in goText++ Desk, but it will be the main format used in the future goText 3.
To get goText++ Desk!, and the new Xml Services, head over to the goText++ Desk! homepage.
I really hope you had a nice Christmas, and that you'll appreciate the same this late Chrismas present I'm giving to you all.
Zydio
PS: I'm sorry but I didn't have enough time to test and package the MacOSX version, it will be released by the end of the month.
Update (December 30, 2009): version 0.8.1 released, fixing some network related problems. Update is recommended to anyone, especially to Windows users.

Update: now Facebook!
We All love Social networks... Well, Zydio does not..but many people are using Facebook, the most popular at the moment.
So, Bluesman takes his keyboard again and wrote a new Service to update the Facebook status with goText... A genious solution to do microblogging and tell your friends what are you doing, in the cheapest way, wherever you are!!
It is very easy to use: see how it works and its address to add it to goText!
That's all folks,
Congrats Bluesman, it rocks!
Update : Twitter and El Salvador support!
We have added two three new services:
- Twitter support: we added another Add-on support. Twitter users can update their status from goText now just adding it as a service and sending it as an SMS. For further information please follow the forum discussion.
- El Salvador support: users from El Salvador can send SMS with goText to Movistar and Todosv mobiles. Just add those new services using URLs that you find in our Services page or just following the author's blog
This last one is an "Add-on" for goText and we call it goTwitter :-)
